44932 Black Five
Recently refurbished, this LMS 5MT 4-6-0 was a surprise visitor to Salisbury on the 5th Agust 2010. The Oliver Cromwell was meant to have hauled the Cathedral Express from London to Bristol via Salisbury and I've no idea why the engines were swopped around.
This shot is of the engine slowly making its way across the points and shows the state our railways are still in. Just look at the bent old rails.
Canon 30D and 100-400L IS (at 400mm) on monopod. 1/100s at f/16 ISO800.
Shot straight into the evening sun, it proved difficult to achieve a balance of detail in the shade and highlights that were not burnt out. Any shots including the sky were doomed to failure.
